Breastfeeding and coronavirus
Ongoing news coverage about coronavirus / COVID 19 can be alarming and it is important to keep track of the most recent current guidance. If you’re breastfeeding, you may be worrying about whether you would be able to pass the illness on to your baby if you caught it yourself.
Please look here for more about milk for your baby during the coronavirus pandemic.
Please see this page on the La Leche League International website, which is being regularly updated to reflect the most recent guidance.

**LLLGB groups update – 26 September 2020**
LLLGB continues to be eager to return to a ‘new normal’ and to be able to provide much needed breastfeeding support face to face with families in our communities.
Based on current government guidance around gatherings and social distancing, in England, Scotland and Wales, we are still not able to run our meetings in the way we’d like, and many groups won’t be able yet to return to face to face meetings. It may be some time before this is possible.
However, there are now some situations in which LLL Leaders will be able to provide in-person breastfeeding support. Please note, this does not mean that all Leaders and all areas will be able to do this – as it will be depend on local circumstances and the personal circumstance of the Leaders. And as government guidance changes, it may mean that what we are able to offer may change at short notice.
LLLGB is keen to ensure the safety and protection of all our volunteer Leaders, as well as all those families who may seek in-person support. For some areas, this will still mean that support will continue as it currently is: via our online zoom groups (see below), your local groups and Leaders, helpline, helpform and other virtual support.
In the Isle of Man, social distancing restrictions have been lifted. This means that at the current time, meetings can recommence with strict hygiene precautions and following local ‘stay responsible’ guidelines.

Breastfeeding and festivities
During festive seasons, women can sometimes feel pressured to get away from their baby and go out on their own. However, many mothers don’t feel like leaving their child, especially in the early months. Breastfed babies are very portable and you can take them with you to almost any place. If you go to stay with relatives explain what you’re comfortable with, as even young babies can sometimes be upset if they are passed around too much (read article...)
